FROM A MOMENT TO A KIT

Three steps. Then play.

  1. Find your cuts.

    Add a YouTube link to each pad. Scrub the source and mark an in and out point. Your recipe saves automatically.

  2. Prepare your media.

    Download the builder, extract it, and run its Python script on your computer. It uses yt-dlp and FFmpeg to create a portable .ytkit. The included README walks through setup.

  3. Drop it back in.

    Import the finished kit. Adjust pitch and speed, wait for the pads to be ready, and switch to Perform. Save the performance kit to keep your edits.

One shot restarts on each hit. Hold stops on release. Loop toggles on each hit. Pads in the same choke group cut one another off. MIDI notes 36–51 map to the grid; velocity controls volume.

Desktop Chrome or Edge with wired headphones is a good starting point. Audio drives timing; video follows and may lag during rapid retriggers. Try the synthesized demo without downloading anything.

Sources & privacy

Use material you have permission to download and sample. A local script does not remove YouTube’s terms. YouTube previews connect to YouTube; imported kit files are processed on your device and are never uploaded by Cutroom.

PREPARE YOUR PERFORMANCE KIT

Your cuts, ready to travel.

  1. Download & extract the builder.

    Keep its files together in one folder.

  2. Run the preparation script.

    Requires Python, current yt-dlp, a supported JavaScript runtime, and FFmpeg. The included README has installation links. The script checks your setup without installing software.

    On macOS/Linux: python3 prepare-kit.py

  3. Import the resulting .ytkit.

    Drop it onto Cutroom, or choose Import kit. Your videos stay local.
